Na ocasião da pandemia do COVID-19 a EMDRIA confeccionou diretrizes para terapia EMDR virtual, um relatório produzido por um grupo de trabalho virtual de treinamento e terapia. No momento, o conjunto de literatura de pesquisa publicada que fornece uma base de conhecimento sobre a aplicação da terapia EMDR online é limitado. Esta lacuna no conhecimento sublinha a necessidade de investigação nesta área. Este relatório apresenta questões relevantes em relação à aplicação virtual da terapia EMDR e aborda especificamente práticas e diretrizes profissionais, considerações éticas e questões gerais para a terapia EMDR realizada por meios virtuais.

Posteriormente a este lançamento das diretrizes da EMDRIA, e impulsionada pela necessidade de nossos terapeutas de EMDR exercerem um trabalho online de qualidade, a Associação Brasileira de EMDR lançou o Guia de diretrizes de atendimento online e publicou para os emderristas brasileiros. Este documento seguiu à risca todas as orientações dadas pelo Conselho Federam de Psicologia para atendimentos virtuais.
